Our Bodies Know the Way, 2019-Ongoing
Collaboration with Cal Chiappisi-Lawton
Our Bodies Know the Way is an evolving social practice and performance art collaboration between Cal Chiapissi-Lawton and Cayla Skillin-Brauchle. At its heart, it’s a project that explores ideas of collaboration and working together towards a common goal. Inspired by Fluxus, this project reiterates that art and absurdism are low stakes, fun avenues for trying out different ways of thinking and doing! We believe that there are no paths to a kinder, more just world without embracing new ways of working together. We re-design this project differently for each iteration, with the community we are performing for in mind.
Weight and Bounty (2-sided mask) and Hug Suit were conceived by Cal Chiapissi-Lawton and Cayla Skillin-Brauchle and skillfully constructed by Cal Chiapissi-Lawton. This piece debuted at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in April 2021 and has been reimagined at Eastern Washington University, Umpqua Valley Arts, The Arts Center, and Willamette University.
Weight and Bounty has been shown at University of Texas, San Antonio Art Gallery and Southeast Missouri State University.
