Viva La Fiesta, 2025

Cyanotypes, pompoms, brief and experimental performances

This piece started with a trip to a piñata store in Monterrey, México, where my young daughter and I purchased a pile of handmade pompoms for a birthday party. In the coming months the pompoms transcended decoration and became a costume, a dance move, a musical instrument, a constant celebration.

This work is a reminder to stay present--something that children are uniquely good at teaching adults. It's also a love letter to our time living in Monterrey, where we felt warm, welcome, well fed, and permeated with the spirit of the multigenerational fiesta.Yesterday marked one year since we left México and I reflect back with gratitude and dreams of amigos, tacos, los jugos y frutas frescas y las montañas del norte de México.
